Leaving a world of probabilities: leadership in a new context.
The context we live in is changing radically. Governments, cities and regions across the world are facing unprecedented pressure to do more with less. Growing populations, fiscal austerity, social inequality, and changing demographics are just some of the forces putting extraordinary pressures on the public sector to transform itself. In the “more for less” quest, the point of emphasis is shifting from improving existing solutions, towards the need to fundamentally redesigning new ones. How do we enable the emergence of new and innovative solutions? What are some of the strategic questions, challenges and opportunities that we face in redesigning our future?

Walking through a few service-design cases in the public sector. Joannes shows how to:
• Obtain deep and actionable insights about future users.
• Use visualisations to create consensus.
• Deploy proven tools in co-creative workshops.
• Reach conclusions that are reliably tested.
The cases come from Namahn's practice and pertain to city halls, a facility for senior citizens, an agricultural park and a centre for basic services to the homeless.
He also introduces the promising discipline of "systemic design", which aims to tackle intractable problems through design thinking.
